Induction and consolidation atezolizumab with stereotactic body radiation therapy versus radiation alone in high-risk, early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (SWOG/NRG S1914)

Picked by The OncoAlert NetworkThe Lancet

Take-home: A phase 3 multicentre trial evaluated whether adding atezolizumab to stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) improves outcomes in medically inoperable early-stage #NSCLC #LungCancer. Among 402 eligible patients, atezolizumab plus SBRT did not improve overall survival compared with SBRT alone, with identical estimated 2-year survival of 82%. Combination therapy also increased grade ≥3 adverse events (12% vs 3%) and included two grade 5 respiratory events, supporting SBRT alone as standard treatment.
